What´s wrong with this picture?

Places that get under my skin, seducing me as much through my own experiences as through their own history, that living narrative that defines their identity over time. Images that pass through my camera’s sensor and remain engraved like a mark on the eye, like a melody that returns to my mind time and again…

Fifteen photographs of my experiences in Belfast shape the stage of a journey with its own soundtrack. This transformative musical-visual journey is inspired by Van Morrison, "The Lion of Belfast," whom this city saw born and raised until he became a genius of so-called "Celtic Soul." His music is the creative engine that accompanies these images, giving meaning and a name to each photograph and to this project.

When a photograph suggests a song, or a song suggests an image, we are no longer just talking about the visual. The concept of "visual music" emerges, allowing for the anchoring, contextualization, and enrichment of the photograph's meaning.

And I wonder: what if the images stood alone? What would change? What story would they tell? Without a narrative, they would likely tell a different story based on our personal projections and our own history. However, through poetic narrative, we begin to contemplate them through the eyes of the musician/writer. Their narrative transforms the viewer's gaze.

Intended as a modest documentary and poetic showcase, the words create a visual narrative to represent—through images—the melancholy of Morrison’s songs in places linked to his autobiographical memory and musical wanderings.

Observing these images invites me to imagine what some of the moments and feelings he narrates in his songs might look like, playing with the idea of what the scenography of his stories would be from my own gaze and personal imagination.

I rediscover myself through this journey that puts into context who I am, what I love, and what inspires me. Belfast etches itself into my memory and saves me by reminding me that other ways are possible, other ways of reconnecting, sharing, and seeing.

I would like to point out that the photographs came first, and the text followed, not the other way around. The song lyrics have traveled from the past to magically accompany the images captured in the present, with no other pretension than to eternalize beautiful moments of my life with which, without knowing it, Belfast saved me.
